Try raising these chicken breeds for unique and colorful eggs…
When choosing chickens for your homestead, there are numerous breeds to choose from. Your choice may depend on a number of factors, including your climate (some breeds are better suited for hot weather and some for cold), your amount of available space, your budget (larger breeds consume more food), and of course, whether you are raising chickens for meat or egg-laying purposes.
If you are raising chickens to have your own fresh eggs, there are many great egg-laying breeds, and while you will definitely want to consider the other factors above, it can be fun to choose a few different varieties that will add some color to your egg basket!
Different chicken breeds will often lay different colors of eggs, and while most may be a shade of pale brown or pinkish, there is a wide range of color variations from light tan, to pale green, to dark brown, speckled, and more. Some – like the Easter Egger breed – can even lay different colored eggs! Below are lists of breeds that lay each color of egg:
BROWN EGG LAYERS
LIGHT TAN LAYERS
WHITE EGG LAYERS
CREAM EGG LAYERS
PINK EGG LAYERS
CHOCOLATE BROWN LAYERS
SPECKLED EGG LAYERS
GREEN EGG LAYERS
BLUE EGG LAYERS
Ameraucana
