D.I.Y: How to Make Your Own All-Natural Non-Toxic Mascara

Avoid harsh chemicals in commercial makeup by making your own all-natural non-toxic mascara! Here’s an easy recipe to try…

Most makeup on store shelves – including mascara – is packed with chemicals such as parabens, BHT, and PEG-40 stearate. While you may think it’s okay to use chemicals like this as long as you aren’t eating them, in fact, many ingredients are absorbed directly through the skin, so they end up in your body anyway. It’s true that there are quite a few more natural alternatives available these days for eco-conscious and toxin-aware consumers, but many of these are still rather expensive.

You may not think of makeup as something that you can actually make for yourself, but in reality, it’s easier than you think! In fact, you can make your own natural mascara using a few simple ingredients from your local health-food store.

The simple D.I.Y. mascara recipe below contains just 4 natural ingredients. When combined, they will help to darken, lengthen, and thicken your lashes to accent your eyes naturally. The color comes from either charcoal or cacao powder, so it’s totally healthy and non-toxic, and you can tailor the shade to your preferences. You will want to store your natural mascara in the fridge since it doesn’t contain any preservatives, and it should last about 6 months.
